Artist's Comments

Again with the scanner...-face desk- Grr. Once again this was a nice looking piece that my scanner saw fit to butcher. I did another growl face wolf because I need to practice distorted facial anatomy. Also, I made a more feline like wolf here because I like to mix the two. The feathers are.... just there I guess. Dunno, seemed like it was appropriate to put something there.

Regardless of your scanner, the colors you chose create with form an excellent contrast and help the image to come toward the viewer; the darker blue/purple/black(?) bg sets off the complementary golden tones of your wolf very nicely.

It's nice that you emphasized the intent to make a feline-wolf in your description, since you have created a nice hybrid that is neither truly wolf or great cat. I love it!

I do think there a some improvements to be made, partially in perspective and partially in composition.

Perspective:

the face and expression are actually pretty good - but the nose is on a different angel than the rest of the creature. the face looks as though it should have a three-quarter view, nearly, and that is a hard angle to work in. The tail also seems rather big compared to the head, although that could be deliberate and I wouldn't complain!

Try using a two-point perspective grid and boxing in the face shapes, then filling in the details, it may help. Info on perspective and 2pt perspective can be found here [link] here [link] and here [link]

Composition:

While the overall composition is pretty even throughout, you have a large space near the top, which became mostly background and then a large white frame. If, for example, the tail curved in a more dramatic arc, possibly moving outside the background frame, it would balance the composition more and provide a little more visual interest.

An easy way to see if your drawing has a balanced composition is to look at it in the mirror. I am always surprised by what I see when doing this!

well, nice draw i liked a lot , the gols color is awesome

Your snarly faces are getting better! Even though this is your second snarling picture, it looks better. ^^ The piece is really nice overall. I like how you mixed canine with feline too. c:

xD I was hoping I'd get your insight on this one! I'm glad you like the candid feline mix!

Scanner killed my colors =( The reason I picked purple is because its a complimentary color to gold, so the intent there is to make my subject pop forward.
